Ivan’s career has taken him all over the world. He plays professional hockey, which means each season can bring a new team, a new country, and a new place to call home.
But Chicago is home.
Ivan and Desi spend only a few months here during the off-season. Desi is originally from Florida, and after this summer, they are moving to Germany for his next hockey season. Before leaving, they wanted engagement photos that felt connected to the city. So they made a day of it.
They picked up their marriage license at Chicago City Hall, and we photographed their engagement session around the Board of Trade and LaSalle Street.
Desi wore a white Marilyn Monroe-inspired dress, which was clearly the correct decision .
Because when your life is spent moving between cities, countries, and hockey seasons, photographs at home mean a little more.
Desi’s brother and my son came along to help with lighting and whatever else we needed. A small but very committed production team for an afternoon downtown.

For Ivan and Desi, these photographs mark the end of one off-season and the beginning of their next chapter in Germany.
Chicago will still be waiting when they come home.
