Chicago has a way of revealing its softer side at sunrise, the way it catches the morning glow. It’s my favorite time to photograph downtown not only because it’s convenient, but because it’s simply the most beautiful version of the city.

For Kate and Rob, we began at North Avenue Beach, long before anyone else arrived. The skyline was showing off.

From the lakefront, we headed downtown. Along the river, the Wrigley Building lit up behind them, glowing the way it only does in the early hours. No elaborate set-ups. No distractions. Just the two of them, the city, and the kind of light photographers wish they could order on demand.
