Winter in Chicago doesn’t try to be charming. It’s cold, direct, and a little dramatic and that’s exactly why a Chicago City Hall wedding in the winter feels so good. On this particular day, the river was still frozen and its a it’s really cool to see if you are ever downtown and lucky enough to witness it.

It’s warm, it’s architectural, and it always looks like a movie set even on a random Tuesday. We started there to get the nerves out of the way before heading to City Hall. From Union Station, we headed to Chicago City Hall for their civil ceremony. Normally, it’s quick. In and out. Very efficient. But not this day. The line was long, long enough that everyone started looking around wondering what was going on. Clearly a high-demand date. It happens. And honestly, it made the day feel even more real. Standing in line together, coats on, hands in pockets, surrounded by other couples doing the exact same thing. No production. No spotlight. Just people getting married. That’s the beauty of a Chicago City Hall wedding. It’s straightforward but doesn’t mean we cant make it beautiful.
